Our ceramics are no exception.

A form takes shape.

Stoneware clay is centred, opened, and drawn up on the wheel. Each curve is considered; each small variation is part of the hand that made it.

Time does its work.

The piece dries slowly, is trimmed to refine its balance, and receives its first firing. A patient process gives the form room to become itself.

Clay meets fire.

Studio glazes bring the surface to life. A final Cone 6 firing completes the transformation from raw clay to a piece ready for its next chapter.

Do I need prior experience to join a workshop?

Not at all. Our Half-Day Wheel Crash Course is designed specifically for beginners and returning potters. We walk you step-by-step through wedging, centering, pulling walls, and shaping functional vessels on the wheel.

When and how do I pay for my course or private session?

Payment is only taken after our formal Professional Services Agreement is signed. Submitting the contract pop-up locks in your booking request and downloads your signed agreement copy. We then confirm calendar dates and issue payment instructions.

What should I wear to the studio?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting dirty—pottery clay washes out of most natural fabrics, but splatters happen. For the best throwing experience: trim your fingernails short, tie back long hair, and remove rings, watches, and wrist jewelry before sitting at the wheel.

When will my finished pieces be ready for pickup?

Ceramics cannot be rushed. Your thrown work needs to dry slowly over several days to prevent cracking, undergo an initial bisque firing (1,800°F), receive hand-dipped glaze, and go through a final high-heat vitrification firing at Cone 6 (2,232°F). The entire cycle takes approximately 3 weeks. We notify you as soon as your pieces are unloaded from the kiln. Finished pieces are available for in-person studio pickup only; we do not offer shipping.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

In accordance with Section 4 of our Professional Services Agreement, notice of cancellation or rescheduling must be delivered in writing at least 48 hours prior to the session. In the event of instructor illness, emergency, or studio utility failure, Edward Donovan Studio reschedules affected sessions at no additional charge.

Studio policies & safety.

Working in a ceramics studio involves physical movement, rotating mechanical equipment (pottery wheels), raw mineral materials, and wet surfaces. By entering the studio, booking a session, or purchasing studio work, you agree to the following terms:

01 / Agreement & Payment Terms

To protect both the student and the studio, seat reservations, commissioned work, and item sales are finalized through a written studio agreement. Payment will be taken only after the contract is signed and agreed upon by both parties.

02 / Equipment & Safety Rules

Participants agree to operate all studio tools and machinery strictly as instructed by the studio facilitator. Loose clothing, long jewelry, and untied hair must be secured before using the pottery wheels.

03 / Physical Nature of Ceramics

Clay dust and wet floors are inherent to the craft. While the studio maintains rigorous safety and ventilation protocols, visitors are expected to practice basic spatial awareness and follow clean-up procedures to minimize slip and trip hazards.

04 / Kiln Access

For your safety, the kiln room and all firing equipment are strictly off-limits to workshop attendees.

05 / Clay Outcomes Disclaimer

Working with clay involves risks beyond our control during drying and high-heat firings. While we take the utmost care with every student creation, occasional cracking, glaze flaws, or kiln breakages can happen. These are natural elements of ceramic learning, and refunds are not issued for damaged pieces.

06 / Release of Liability

By signing your studio agreement, you voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation and hold the studio, its owners, and instructors harmless from any personal injury, property damage, or lost personal items occurring on the premises.

Your studio agreement is shared and confirmed directly before payment. Closing this notice does not sign an agreement.

Edward Donovan Studio respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. When you engage with our studio, submit an appointment inquiry, or execute a Professional Services Agreement, we collect only the information necessary to conduct ceramic instruction, coordinate studio schedules, and maintain official business records.

01 / Information We Collect

When you request a course booking or execute a studio contract, we collect personal information including your full legal name, email address, telephone number, organization or studio affiliation (if applicable), billing and physical address, scheduling preferences, and your electronic digital signature.

02 / How We Use Your Information

Your information is used exclusively to: (a) prepare and execute your formal Professional Services Agreement, (b) confirm course calendar dates and coordinate private sessions, (c) issue tuition invoices via credit card or ACH, (d) notify you regarding kiln vitrification status and in-person piece pickup availability, and (e) respond directly to your inquiries.

03 / No Sale or Third-Party Marketing

We do not sell, rent, trade, license, or monetize your personal information to data brokers, marketing agencies, or advertisers under any circumstances. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or behavioral profiling cookies.

04 / Secure Communications & Service Providers

To operate our digital booking infrastructure, agreement notices are transmitted securely through enterprise transactional email services (Resend) solely for administrative dispatch to the studio (info@eddonovanstudio.online). All communications are encrypted in transit via standard TLS/SSL protocols.

05 / Data Retention & Record Keeping

Signed agreements and associated contact details are retained only for the duration required to fulfill instructional obligations, maintain legal and tax accounting records, and comply with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania statutory regulations.

06 / Your Rights & Contact Information
